MEANING O F MOTIF
Motif is the basic or smallest unit of a design. Motifs are solely used in creating patterns on paper and fabric. The use of motifs in creating patterns on paper and fabric is based on the principle of and design called ‘repetition’. Motifs are further repeated several times to form a pattern. The types of motifs include simple repeat pattern, mirror repeat pattern, checkerboard repeat pattern, full drop repeat pattern, half drop repeat pattern, counter change repeat pattern, and diamond repeat pattern. Motifs can be created in lives, dots shapes, etc.
TYPES OF MOTIF
- Floral or flower motif
- Abstract motif
- Persian boteh motif
- Rosette designs
- Geometric motif.
- Line motif.
- Traditional motif.
- Insect motif.
- Animal motif.
USES OF MOTIF
- Motif is used for creating patterns on paper and fabric.
