What is the Human Body?
The human body is made up of many different parts that work together to keep us alive, healthy, and able to do activities.
Major Parts of the Human Body

- Head
The top part of the body containing the brain and sense organs
Parts of the Head:
- Brain: Controls everything in the body
- Eyes: Help us see and look at things
- Ears: Help us hear sounds
- Nose: Helps us smell and breathe
- Mouth: For eating, drinking, and talking
- Hair: Protects head from sun and cold
- Face: Shows our expressions and emotions
Functions:
- Thinking and controlling: Brain makes decisions
- Sensing: Eyes, ears, nose help us understand world around us
- Communication: Mouth helps us talk and express ourselves
- Protection: Skull protects the brain
- Neck
The part connecting head to the body
Function:
- Support: Holds up the head
- Movement: Allows head to turn and move
- Passage: Food and air pass through neck
- Protection: Contains important tubes for breathing and swallowing
- Trunk (Torso)
The main part of the body containing vital organs
Parts of the Trunk:
Chest:
- Heart: Pumps blood around the body
- Lungs: Help us breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide
- Ribs: Bones that protect heart and lungs
Abdomen (Belly):
- Stomach: Breaks down food we eat
- Liver: Cleans blood and helps digest food
- Kidneys: Clean waste from blood and make urine
- Intestines: Absorb nutrients from food
Back:
- Spine: Backbone that supports whole body
- Spinal cord: Carries messages between brain and body
Functions:
- Vital processes: Breathing, blood circulation, digestion
- Protection: Ribs and spine protect important organs
- Support: Trunk supports head and limbs
- Arms
Upper limbs used for reaching, holding, and working
Parts of Arms:
- Shoulders: Connect arms to trunk
- Upper arm: From shoulder to elbow
- Elbow: Joint that bends the arm
- Forearm: From elbow to wrist
- Wrist: Joint connecting arm to hand
- Hands: For grasping and fine work
- Fingers: For detailed tasks and gripping
- Thumb: Opposite finger that makes gripping strong
Functions:
- Manipulation: Pick up, hold, and move objects
- Work: Use tools and do tasks
- Expression: Gestures and sign language
- Protection: Shield body from harm
- Legs
Lower limbs used for movement and support
Parts of Legs:
- Hips: Connect legs to trunk
- Thigh: Upper part from hip to knee
- Knee: Joint that bends the leg
- Shin: Front part of lower leg
- Calf: Back part of lower leg
- Ankle: Joint connecting leg to foot
- Feet: For standing and walking
- Toes: Help with balance and movement
Functions:
- Locomotion: Walking, running, jumping
- Support: Hold up the whole body weight
- Balance: Keep body stable and upright
- Transportation: Move body from place to place
Body Systems and Their Functions

- Skeletal System (Bones)
- Function: Give shape and support to body
- Protection: Protect soft organs inside
- Movement: Work with muscles to help us move
- Blood production: Make new blood cells
- Muscular System (Muscles)
- Function: Make body parts move
- Types: Voluntary (we control) and involuntary (automatic)
- Examples: Arm muscles, leg muscles, heart muscle
- Strength: Give body power to do work
- Circulatory System (Blood)
- Function: Carry blood, oxygen, and nutrients around body
- Heart: Pumps blood through blood vessels
- Blood vessels: Tubes that carry blood everywhere
- Importance: Every part of body needs blood to live
- Respiratory System (Breathing)
- Function: Take in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide
- Lungs: Main breathing organs in chest
- Process: Breathe in fresh air, breathe out waste air
- Automatic: Happens without thinking about it
- Digestive System (Food Processing)
- Function: Break down food and absorb nutrients
- Mouth: Chewing and saliva start digestion
- Stomach: Continues breaking down food
- Intestines: Absorb nutrients into blood
- Nervous System (Control)
- Function: Control all body activities
- Brain: Main control center
- Nerves: Carry messages throughout body
- Senses: Help brain understand environment
How Body Parts Work Together
Example 1: Eating an Apple
- Eyes: See the apple
- Brain: Decides to eat it
- Arms/Hands: Pick up the apple
- Mouth: Bite and chew
- Teeth: Cut and grind food
- Stomach: Digest the apple
- Intestines: Absorb nutrients
Example 2: Running to School
- Brain: Decides to run
- Legs/Feet: Move body forward
- Arms: Swing for balance
- Lungs: Breathe faster for more oxygen
- Heart: Pumps blood faster
- Eyes: Watch for obstacles
Example 3: Listening to Teacher
- Ears: Hear the words
- Brain: Understand the meaning
- Eyes: Watch teacher’s gestures
- Neck: Turn head to focus
- Hands: May take notes
Taking Care of Our Body
Good Habits:
- Regular exercise: Keep muscles and bones strong
- Healthy eating: Give body good nutrients
- Enough sleep: Let body rest and repair
- Good hygiene: Keep body clean and fresh
- Regular check-ups: Visit doctor to stay healthy
Avoid Harmful Things:
- Dangerous activities: That can hurt body parts
- Junk food: That doesn’t nourish body well
- Lack of exercise: That makes body weak
- Poor hygiene: That can cause disease
- Injury risks: Be careful to prevent accidents
EXERCISES
Exercise 1: Fill in the Blanks
