Recitation

Arabic Text and Pronunciation

Verse 1: وَالضُّحَىٰ Wad-duhā

Verse 2: وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ Wal-layli idhā sajā

Verse 3: مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ Mā wadda’aka rabbuka wa mā qalā

Verse 4: وَلَلْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ الْأُولَىٰ Wa lal-ākhiratu khayrun laka mina’l-ūlā

Verse 5: وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَىٰ Wa la-sawfa yu’tīka rabbuka fa-tardā

Verse 6: أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَآوَىٰ Alam yajidka yatīman fa-āwā

Translation

English Translation

Verse 1: “By the morning brightness”

Verse 2: “And by the night when it covers with darkness”

Verse 3: “Your Lord has not taken leave of you, nor has He detested you”

Verse 4: “And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life]”

Verse 5: “And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied”

Verse 6: “Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?”

Simple Translation for Children

  • Verse 1: Allah swears by the bright morning sun
  • Verse 2: Allah swears by the quiet, dark night
  • Verse 3: Allah has not left you alone and He doesn’t hate you
  • Verse 4: The next life (Paradise) will be much better than this life
  • Verse 5: Allah will give you so much that you’ll be very happy
  • Verse 6: Allah found you without parents and took care of you
