Fourth Generation Computers (1970s-1990s):
Technology Used:
- Microprocessors: An Entire computer processor on single chip
- Much smaller and more powerful than previous generations
- Personal computers: Computers for individual use
Characteristics:
- Size: Small enough for desks and homes
- Cost: Affordable for individuals and families
- Speed: Much faster than previous generations
- User-friendly: Easier for regular people to use
Fifth Generation Computers (1990s-Present):
Technology Used:
- Advanced microprocessors: Even faster and smaller chips
- Artificial Intelligence: Computers that can “think” and learn
- Internet connectivity: Computers connected to worldwide network
Characteristics:
- Very fast processing: Handle complex tasks quickly
- Multimedia: Can handle pictures, videos, and sounds
- Networking: Connect with other computers worldwide
- Mobile: Laptops, tablets, smartphones
