BASIC SCIENCE: AIR IN MOTION I – WIND

What is Wind?

Wind is moving air that we can feel but cannot see. When air moves from one place to another, we call it wind.

How We Know Wind is There

  • We feel it on our skin
  • We see leaves moving on trees
  • We hear it making sounds
  • We see clothes dancing on the line

Effects of Wind

Good Effects:

  • Helps dry wet clothes
  • Moves sailboats on water
  • Turns windmills to make electricity
  • Brings fresh air and cool weather
  • Helps birds fly easier

Bad Effects:

  • Can blow away light things
  • Strong wind can break tree branches
  • Can blow dust into our eyes
  • Very strong wind can damage houses
