Introduction
The /ai/ sound is a special vowel sound that we hear in words like “rain” and “train.” It’s made by putting two letters together to make one sound.
Content Development
What is the /ai/ Sound? The /ai/ sound is a vowel sound made when we put ‘a’ and ‘i’ together. It sounds like saying the letter ‘A’ (ay).
Common /ai/ Spelling Patterns:
Pattern 1: ai
- rain – water falling from clouds
- train – long vehicle that runs on tracks
- chain – connected metal rings
- brain – organ inside our head for thinking
- plain – simple, not fancy
- drain – where water goes away
- grain – small pieces of rice or wheat
