What are Characteristics?

Characteristics are special qualities or features that make something what it is – like how kindness and honesty are characteristics of a good friend.

8 Main Characteristics of Good Governance

  1. Transparency 👁️

Meaning: Being open and clear 

Example: Leaders tell people how money is spent 

Like: Glass windows – you can see through

 

  1. Accountability 📋

Meaning: Taking responsibility for actions 

Example: Leaders explain their decisions 

Like: Doing homework and showing teacher

 

  1. Fairness/Equity ⚖️

Meaning: Treating everyone equally 

Example: Same rules for everybody 

Like: Sharing sweets equally with friends

 

  1. Participation 🤝

Meaning: Everyone can contribute 

Example: Citizens give ideas 

Like: Everyone speaks in class discussion

  1. Rule of Law 📜

Meaning: Everyone follows the law 

Example: Even leaders obey rules 

Like: Everyone follows school rules

 

  1. Responsiveness 🔔

Meaning: Quick to help and act 

Example: Fixing problems fast 

Like: Teacher helping when you raise hand

 

  1. Effectiveness 🎯

Meaning: Getting good results 

Example: Promises are kept 

Like: Studying hard and passing exams

 

  1. Consensus 🤝

Meaning: Making decisions together 

Example: Leaders agree on what’s best 

Like: Class agreeing on monitor
