Topic: Why Study Civic Education

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this lesson, pupils should be able to:

  • Explain civic education
  • Identify reasons for studying civic education
  • Discuss why they study civic education at school

Lesson Content:

What is Civic Education? Civic education is a subject that teaches us how to be good members of our family, school, and community. It shows us the right way to behave.

Reasons for Studying Civic Education:

  1. To Learn Good Behavior:
    1. How to greet people politely
    2. How to share with others
    3. How to say “please,” “thank you,” and “sorry”
  2. To Know Our Rights:
    1. Right to go to school
    2. Right to be treated fairly
    3. Right to be safe and protected
  3. To Know Our Duties:
    1. Duty to obey our parents and teachers
    2. Duty to keep our environment clean
    3. Duty to respect others
  4. To Become Responsible:
    1. Taking care of our things
    2. Helping with house chores
    3. Being honest always
  5. To Live Peacefully:
    1. Not fighting or quarreling
    2. Sharing and caring for others
    3. Solving problems by talking

Why We Study Civic Education at School:

  • Our teachers want us to be good children
  • It helps us work well with our classmates
  • It prepares us to be good citizens when we grow up
  • It teaches us values our parents want us to have

Class Activity:

Role-play different scenarios showing good and bad behavior. Let pupils identify which is which and explain why.
