LESSON OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson, pupils should be able to:

  • Say what food means
  • Name types of food we eat in our locality
  • Tell where food comes from

LESSON CONTENT

What is Food?

Food is anything we eat to keep our body strong and healthy.

We need food to grow, play and live.

Types of Food We Eat in Our Locality:

  1. Local Foods:

  • Rice and beans

  • Yam and plantain

  • Cassava and sweet potato

  • Maize (corn)

  • Millet and guinea corn

  1. Fruits:

  • Orange, mango, banana
  • Pineapple, pawpaw, watermelon
  1. Vegetables:

  • Spinach, lettuce, tomato
  • Pepper, onion, okra
  1. Meat and Fish:

  • Chicken, beef, goat meat
  • Fish from rivers and sea

Sources of Food:

  1. Plants – give us fruits, vegetables, grains 
  2. Animals – give us meat, milk, eggs 
  3. Water – gives us fish
