Governors of Lagos State Since Creation (1967)

Military Administrators (1967-1999) When Lagos State was created, Nigeria was under military rule, so the state was led by military officers called “Military Administrators.”

  1. Colonel Mobolaji Johnson (1967-1975)

  • First leader of Lagos State
  • Helped set up the new state government
  • Built many roads and schools
  • Was in charge for 8 years
  1. Brigadier Ademulegun (1975-1977)

  • Continued developing Lagos State
  • Worked on improving infrastructure
  • Was in charge for 2 years

 Group Captain Emeka Omeruah (1977-1978)

  • Continued the work of developing Lagos
  • Was in charge for 1 year
  1. Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (1984-1986)

  • Worked on urban development

Civilian Governors (1999-Present) Since 1999, Nigeria returned to democracy, so Lagos State now has elected governors.

  • Built many roads, bridges, and schools
  • Improved internally generated revenue
  • Started many development projects

  • Served for 8 years (2 terms)
  • Built many bridges and roads

  • Current governor of Lagos State
  • Continues to develop Lagos
  • Working on education, healthcare, and infrastructure
  • Dealing with modern challenges like traffic and population growth
