Lesson Content:
What is Packaging? Packaging means putting processed foods into containers or wrapping materials to protect them and make them easy to sell and use.
Examples of Packaged Foods:
- Biscuits in plastic wrappers
- Rice in bags
- Milk in cartons
- Bread in nylon bags
- Garri in plastic bags
- Palm oil in bottles
- Salt in packets
- Sugar in bags
Reasons for Packaging Processed Foods:
- Protection
- Keeps food safe from dirt, dust, and germs
- Protects from insects and pests
- Easy to Handle
- Makes food easy to carry and transport
- Prevents spillage
- Attractive Appearance
- Makes food look nice and appealing
- Attracts customers to buy
- Information
- Shows what the food is
- Tells us how to use it and when it expires
- Hygiene
- Keeps food clean
- Safe for people to eat
- Storage
- Easy to store at home
- Takes less space
Simple Packaging for School Farm Produce:
- Use clean plastic bags for vegetables
- Put fruits in small baskets
- Wrap processed items in clean paper
- Use bottles for liquid products
