What is Environmental Quality?
Environmental Quality is the air in which something exists or lives. It is a living and non-living things such as plants, animals, water, houses, roads and air in an area.
A good quality environment is a healthy and safe environment. Maintaining good quality of the environment begins from home and the school.
An environment quality is the condition or state of our surrounding. Our surrounding at home and school must be clean so that the environment must provide good water (quality), good air to breath and quality food.
A healthy environment is free from disease, air pollutants, dirty products, and very suitable for our children.
Signs of Good Environmental Quality
Some of the basic important signs are:
During the Day:
- Clean air to breathe
- Good water (potable) water
- Good roads/footpaths
Important Environmental conditions with their values, pollutants such as acid rain water and smokestacks are not living:
The following are sources of healthy environmental:
- Farming with chemicals
- Playing with chemicals
- Bush burning
- Dumping of refuse
- Damage to water
- Oil drilling
- Erosion
- Wind
- Snakes
- Volcanic eruptions
Advantages of a Healthy Environment
A healthy environment gives us comfort:
- A healthy environment is free from diseases
- A healthy environment gives us clean air to breathe and our diseases
- A healthy environment make us to have to peace with our neighbors
- A healthy environment make us live from unwanted occurrence of poverty has stepping on broken bottles or nail
- A healthy environment guarantees economic and social development
- A healthy environment promotes human education
- Human health is guaranteed by a healthy environment
- A healthy environment ensures the survival of all living organisms both plants and animals
- A healthy environment provides portable water for drinking
How to Maintain a Healthy Environment
COMPONENTS OF POOR QUALITY/UNHEALTHY ENVIRONMENT:
- There will be bad odours in the environment
- There will be outbreak of diseases which may lead to death
- There will be discomfort in the environment
- The environment will look dirty
- It can cause bad water and poor food contamination
- It can cause water pollution and poisoning of aquatic animals
- It will lead to reduction in crop yields and hunger of farming resulting from economic pollution and oil spillage
Ways of Maintaining Healthy Environment
- Keep the surrounding clean always
- Plant live without and other buildings clean
- Clear the human footpath
- Avoid dumping of refuse anywhere
- Sweep the compound and pack the toilet regularly
- Plant flowers and fruit tree to serve as shades and beautify the environment
- Construct good drainage system
- Clear the gutter and drains to allow flowing of liquid water
- Proper drainage and sewage
- Avoid throwing around toilet, introduction to properly dispose of disorders that waste properly
- People must maintain a healthy environment
- Avoid bush burning
