Topic: Structure: Simile
What is a Simile?
A simile compares two different things using the words “like” or “as”. It helps make writing more interesting and descriptive.
Formula for Similes:
Something + like/as + something else
Examples:
- She runs like a cheetah. (very fast)
- He is as brave as a lion. (very brave)
- The stars shine like diamonds. (very bright)
- Her voice is as sweet as honey. (very pleasant)
Common Simile Patterns:
- As busy as a bee
- As quiet as a mouse
- Like a fish out of water
- As hard as a rock
- Like lightning (very fast)
- As white as snow
