Topic: Digging Tools

What Are Digging Tools?

Digging tools are special equipment used to break up soil, make holes, and move earth. Farmers and gardeners use these tools to prepare land for planting.

Common Digging Tools

  1. Spade

  • What it looks like: Flat, sharp metal blade with a long handle
  • What it does: Cuts through soil and digs straight holes
  • Best for: Making neat holes for planting trees and bushes
  1. Shovel

  • What it looks like: Curved metal blade with a handle
  • What it does: Scoops and moves soil, sand, or stones
  • Best for: Moving loose soil from one place to another
  1. Pick Axe

  • What it looks like: Heavy tool with a pointed metal head
  • What it does: Breaks up very hard soil and rocks
  • Best for: Breaking tough ground that other tools cannot dig
  1. Hand Trowel

  • What it looks like: Small spade that fits in your hand
  • What it does: Digs small holes and plants seedlings
  • Best for: Working in flower pots and small gardens
  1. Fork (Digging Fork)

  • What it looks like: Metal prongs (teeth) on a handle
  • What it does: Loosens soil without cutting plant roots
  • Best for: Breaking up soil around existing plants

Why Do We Need Digging Tools?

  • They make holes for planting seeds and seedlings
  • They help mix soil with compost or fertilizer
  • They remove rocks and hard lumps from soil
  • They make farming work easier and faster
