Gabobin Kalma (Word Syllables)

What are Syllables?

Syllables are small parts of words. Each part has one vowel sound.

Examples of Syllables

  • ma-ma (2 syllables)
  • ba-ba (2 syllables)
  • gi-da (2 syllables)
  • ka-re (2 syllables)
  • ma-ka-ran-ta (4 syllables)

Breaking Words into Syllables

Two-Syllable Words

  • ba-ba = baba
  • ma-ma = mama
  • gi-da = gida
  • ka-re = kare
  • wa-sa = wasa

Three-Syllable Words

  • ya-ri-nya = yarinya
  • a-bi-nci = abinci
  • li-tta-fi = littafi

Four-Syllable Words

  • ma-ka-ran-ta = makaranta
  • ma-hai-fi-ya = mahaifiya

Writing Practice

When writing syllables:

  1. Write each syllable clearly
  2. Leave small spaces between syllables
  3. Join them to make the complete word
