Topic: Our Religion and Practice

What is Religion?

Religion is what we believe about God and how we worship. It teaches us to be good people and live peacefully with others.

Major Religions in Nigeria

  1. Christianity ✝️

Beliefs: Believe in Jesus Christ and God 

Holy Book: The Bible 

Place of Worship: Church 

Practices:

  • Pray to God
  • Go to church on Sundays
  • Celebrate Christmas and Easter
  • Sing hymns and choruses
  1. Islam ☪️

Beliefs: Believe in Allah and Prophet Muhammad 

Holy Book: The Quran 

Place of Worship: Mosque 

Practices:

  • Pray 5 times daily
  • Fast during Ramadan
  • Go to mosque on Fridays
  • Celebrate Eid festivals
  1. Traditional Religion 🕊️

Beliefs: Believe in ancestors and gods 

Place of Worship: Shrines 

Practices:

  • Respect for ancestors
  • Traditional festivals
  • Use of traditional medicine
  • Prayers to the gods of land, river, etc.

Living Together in Peace

  • Respect all religions
  • Don’t laugh at others’ beliefs
  • Celebrate with friends of different religions
  • We are all Nigerians first!
  • God loves everyone

Religious Tolerance

This means accepting that people worship differently and that’s okay! We can be friends even if we go to different places of worship.
