Lesson Content:

Review: The Three Arms of Nigerian Armed Forces

  1. Nigerian Army (green camouflage uniform)
  2. Nigerian Navy (white/blue uniform)
  3. Nigerian Air Force (blue uniform)

Duties of the Nigerian Army:

  1. Land Defense:
  • Protect Nigeria’s land borders with other countries
  • Guard against enemies trying to enter by land
  • Fight battles on land when necessary
  • Patrol forests and difficult terrains
  1. Internal Security:
  • Help police during serious security problems
  • Stop riots and civil unrest
  • Fight against kidnappers and bandits
  • Protect important places and people
  1. Counter-Terrorism:
  • Fight against Boko Haram and other terrorists
  • Rescue people kidnapped by terrorists
  • Destroy terrorist camps in forests
  • Protect civilians from terrorist attacks
  1. Peacekeeping:
  • Help stop wars in other African countries
  • Work with United Nations peacekeeping forces
  • Separate fighting groups in conflict areas
  • Protect civilians during wars
  1. Disaster Relief:
  • Help during floods and earthquakes
  • Rescue people trapped in disasters
  • Distribute food and supplies during emergencies
  • Build temporary bridges and roads

Duties of the Nigerian Navy:

  1. Maritime Defense:
  • Protect Nigeria’s coastline and territorial waters
  • Guard against enemies attacking from the sea
  • Patrol the Atlantic Ocean around Nigeria
  • Protect offshore oil rigs and platforms
  1. Anti-Piracy Operations:
  • Fight against sea pirates who attack ships
  • Rescue ships and crew taken by pirates
  • Patrol shipping lanes to prevent attacks
  • Work with international forces against piracy
  1. Anti-Oil Theft:
  • Stop people from stealing crude oil from pipelines
  • Arrest oil thieves and illegal refiners
  • Destroy illegal oil refining sites
  • Protect oil facilities in the Niger Delta
  1. Search and Rescue:
  • Save people whose boats sink in water
  • Rescue fishermen in distress at sea
  • Help during oil spill disasters

Duties of the Nigerian Air Force:

  1. Air Defense:
  • Protect Nigerian airspace from enemy aircraft
  • Shoot down unauthorized planes if necessary
  • Use radar to monitor planes in Nigerian sky
  • Guard against air attacks on Nigeria
  1. Air Support:
  • Help Army and Navy operations from the air
  • Drop supplies to soldiers in remote areas
  • Transport troops quickly to trouble spots
  • Provide aerial surveillance and intelligence
  1. Search and Rescue:
  • Use helicopters to rescue people in remote areas
  • Help during natural disasters from the air
  • Evacuate people from dangerous situations
