Topic: Launching Microsoft Word

What is Microsoft Word?

Microsoft Word is a computer program used for typing letters, stories, and documents. It helps us write and make our writing look nice.

How to Launch (Start) Microsoft Word

Method 1 – Start Menu:

  1. Click the Start button (usually bottom left corner)
  2. Look for All Programs or Apps
  3. Find Microsoft Office folder
  4. Click on Microsoft Word

Method 2 – Desktop Icon:

  1. Look for Word icon on desktop (looks like a blue “W”)
  2. Double-click on the icon
  3. Word will open automatically

Method 3 – Taskbar:

  1. Look at bottom of screen for Word icon
  2. Single-click on the icon
  3. Word opens immediately

What You See When Word Opens

  • Blank white page – where you type
  • Cursor – blinking line showing where to type
  • Toolbar – buttons at the top for different actions
  • Menu bar – File, Edit, View, Insert options

Basic Things You Can Do

  • Type text – just start typing on the white page
  • Change font size – make letters bigger or smaller
  • Make text bold – make words darker and thicker
  • Save your work – keep your document safe
  • Print – make a paper copy

Soil Animal Hunt

Exercise 3: Look for these animals around school: 

□ Earthworms (in wet soil) 

□ Ants (look for ant hills) 

□ Beetles (under rocks or logs)

Computer Practice

If computers are available: Exercise 4: Microsoft Word Practice

  1. Try to open Microsoft Word using one method
  2. Type your name on the blank page
  3. Try to make your name bold
  4. Save your document with help from teacher

Matching Exercise

Exercise 5: Match animals with what they do in soil:
