What are Consequences?

Consequences are things that happen as a result of something. When people focus too much on ethnic differences instead of unity, bad things can happen.

Negative Consequences (Bad Results) ❌

1. COMMUNAL CONFLICTS 🏘️

What it means: Fighting between ethnic groups 

What happens:

• Neighbors become enemies
• People get hurt
• Property destroyed
• Communities divided

Example: Fighting over land between groups

2. POLITICAL VIOLENCE 🗳️

What it means: Fighting during elections because of ethnicity 

What happens:

• Voting for tribe, not best person
• Election violence
• Bad leaders win
• Country doesn’t develop

Example: “Vote for him because he’s from our tribe”

3. NEPOTISM (FAVORITISM) 👥

What it means: Giving jobs/help only to your ethnic group 

What happens:

• Best people not chosen
• Unfair treatment
• Others feel cheated
• Work suffers

Example: Boss employs only people from his village

4. DISCRIMINATION 🚫

What it means: Treating people badly because of their ethnicity 

What happens:

• Some can’t get jobs
• Children bullied in school
• People feel unwanted
• Talents wasted

Example: “We don’t sell to people from that tribe”

5. LACK OF UNITY 💔

What it means: No togetherness 

What happens:

• Can’t work together
• No national progress
• Weak country
• Easy to attack

Example: Different groups refusing to cooperate

6. SLOW DEVELOPMENT 📉

What it means: Country doesn’t grow 

What happens:

• Fighting instead of building
• Money wasted on conflicts
• Investors run away
• Poverty increases

Positive Consequences (Good Results) ✅

When We Manage Ethnicity Well:

• Cultural richness: Many foods, dances, languages
• Learn from each other: Different skills and ideas
• Stronger together: Unity in diversity
• Tourism: People visit to see our cultures

How to Avoid Bad Consequences

• See everyone as Nigerian first
• Make friends from other groups
• Don’t discriminate
• Choose leaders by ability, not tribe
• Respect all cultures
• Report ethnic violence
