Day 2-3: Learning Multiplication Tables

The 2 Times Table:

  • 1 × 2 = 2
  • 2 × 2 = 4
  • 3 × 2 = 6
  • 4 × 2 = 8
  • 5 × 2 = 10
  • 6 × 2 = 12
  • 7 × 2 = 14
  • 8 × 2 = 16
  • 9 × 2 = 18
  • 10 × 2 = 20

The 3 Times Table:

  • 1 × 3 = 3
  • 2 × 3 = 6
  • 3 × 3 = 9
  • 4 × 3 = 12
  • 5 × 3 = 15
  • 6 × 3 = 18
  • 7 × 3 = 21
  • 8 × 3 = 24
  • 9 × 3 = 27
  • 10 × 3 = 30

Day 4: Multiplying 2-Digit Numbers by 2

What Does “No Renaming” Mean?

  • Each digit multiplied by 2 gives a single digit (≤ 9)
  • No carrying over needed

Step-by-Step Method:

  1. Multiply the units digit by 2
  2. Multiply the tens digit by 2
  3. Write the answer

Example 1: 23 × 2

  23

×   2

—–

   46

  • Units: 3 × 2 = 6
  • Tens: 2 × 2 = 4
  • Answer: 46

Example 2: 41 × 2

  41

×   2

—–

   82

  • Units: 1 × 2 = 2
  • Tens: 4 × 2 = 8
  • Answer: 82

Day 5: Real-Life Applications

Doubling in Daily Life:

  • 2 groups of the same amount
  • Twice as many
  • Double portions

Problem-Solving Examples:

  • “If one book costs 23 naira, how much do 2 books cost?”
  • “There are 14 boys in one class. How many boys are in 2 identical classes?”

Examples in Class

Multiplication Table Examples:

Reciting the 2 Times Table: “2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20!”

Reciting the 3 Times Table: “3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30!”

2-Digit Multiplication Examples:

Example 1: 32 × 2

  32

×   2

—–

   64

Example 2: 21 × 2

  21

×   2

—–

   42

Example 3: 44 × 2

  44

×   2

—–

   88

Real-Life Examples:

Shopping: “Mom bought 2 packets of biscuits. Each packet costs 34 naira. How much did she spend?” 34 × 2 = 68 naira

School Supplies: “Each student needs 12 pencils. How many pencils do 2 students need?” 12 × 2 = 24 pencils

Sports: “A football team has 11 players. How many players are on 2 teams?” 11 × 2 = 22 players
