Classes of Plants Based on Life Span
Annual Plants (Live 1 Year):
- Complete their life in one growing season
- Plant → Grow → Flower → Seeds → Die
- Examples: Maize, beans, pepper, tomato, okra
- Farmers must plant new ones every year
Biennial Plants (Live 2 Years):
- Take two years to complete their life
- Year 1: Grow leaves and strong roots
- Year 2: Produce flowers and seeds, then die
- Examples: Carrots, onions, sweet potato
Perennial Plants (Live Many Years):
- Live for more than two years
- Can produce fruits/seeds many times
- Examples: Mango, orange, coconut, cashew trees
- Plant once, enjoy for many years
Uses of Plants
Food Uses:
- Fruits: Banana, orange, apple, pineapple

- Vegetables: Spinach, lettuce, cucumber

- Cereals: Rice, wheat, millet

- Spices: Pepper, ginger, garlic

Medicine Uses:
- Bitter leaf – treats stomach problems

- Pawpaw leaves – for malaria treatment

- Scent leaf – helps with cough

- Moringa – gives vitamins and strength

Industrial Uses:
- Cotton – for making clothes and fabric
- Rubber tree – makes car tires and shoes
- Wood – furniture, houses, paper
- Coconut – oil for cooking and soap
