Content
History of Hockey
Field Hockey:
- One of the oldest team sports (over 4,000 years)
- Modern game developed in England in the 19th century
- First Hockey Association formed in 1886 in England
- Became an Olympic sport in 1908 (men), 1980 (women)
- Popular in India, Pakistan, Netherlands, Australia
Ice Hockey:
- Originated in Canada in the 19th century
- First indoor game played in Montreal, 1875
- National Hockey League (NHL) founded in 1917
Facilities and Equipment
Playing Field (Field Hockey):
- Length: 91.4 meters (100 yards)
- Width: 55 meters (60 yards)
- Rectangular shape
- Goal posts: 3.66m wide × 2.14m high
- Surface: Grass or artificial turf
- Marked with lines for striking circles, center line, sidelines

- Hockey Stick
