What Are Gathering Tools?
Gathering tools are equipment used to collect crops, fruits, vegetables, and other farm products after they are ready for harvest. These tools help farmers pick and collect their produce safely and quickly.
Common Gathering Tools
- Basket

- What it looks like: Woven container with handles
- What it does: Holds fruits, vegetables, and crops while picking
- Best for: Collecting tomatoes, oranges, vegetables, and grains
- Sickle

- What it looks like: Curved metal blade with a short handle
- What it does: Cuts crops like rice, wheat, and grass
- Best for: Harvesting grain crops close to the ground
- Pruning Shears

- What it looks like: Large scissors with strong blades
- What it does: Cuts branches and stems cleanly
- Best for: Picking flowers, cutting grape bunches, trimming plants
- Harvesting Knife

- What it looks like: Sharp knife with a curved or straight blade
- What it does: Cuts vegetables and fruits from plants
- Best for: Harvesting cabbage, lettuce, and other leafy vegetables
- Collection Bags/Sacks
- What it looks like: Large cloth or plastic bags
- What it does: Stores large amounts of harvested crops
- Best for: Collecting rice, corn, beans, and other grains
- Fruit Picker (with pole)

- What it looks like: Long pole with a basket or hook at the end
- What it does: Reaches high fruits without climbing trees
- Best for: Picking mangoes, apples, and other tree fruits
