Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
- Mention self-control, moderation, and compromise as national values
- Explain how these values promote peace
- Bring out the benefits of having these values
Lesson Content:
- SELF-CONTROL Meaning: The ability to control one’s emotions, actions, and reactions, especially in difficult situations.
How Self-Control Promotes Peace:
- Prevents people from acting violently when angry
- Reduces conflicts caused by emotional reactions
- Helps people think before acting
- Prevents regrettable actions and words
- Creates calm and peaceful environments
Examples of Self-Control:
- Not hitting someone when you’re angry
- Waiting patiently in a queue
- Speaking calmly when upset
- Not eating too much food at once
- Controlling your temper during arguments
- MODERATION Meaning: Avoiding extremes; being reasonable and balanced in behavior, opinions, and actions.
How Moderation Promotes Peace:
- Prevents extreme behaviors that cause conflicts
- Encourages balanced and fair decisions
- Reduces tensions between opposing groups
- Promotes compromise and understanding
- Creates stable and peaceful societies
Examples of Moderation:
- Not being too strict or too lenient as a leader
- Eating balanced meals, not too much or too little
- Speaking with balanced opinions, not extreme views
- Being fair in sharing resources
- Making decisions that consider all sides
- COMPROMISE Meaning: The willingness to give up some of your demands to reach an agreement that satisfies everyone partially.
How Compromise Promotes Peace:
- Helps resolve conflicts peacefully
- Ensures all parties get something they want
- Prevents prolonged disagreements
- Builds cooperation between opposing sides
- Creates win-win situations
Examples of Compromise:
- Sharing toys equally among friends
- Taking turns in games and activities
