What are Characteristics of a Nation?

These are special features that all nations have. They help people feel they belong together as one.

Main Characteristics

  1. COMMON TERRITORY 🗺️

What it means: Shared land where people live 

In Nigeria:

  • From Lagos to Maiduguri
  • From Calabar to Sokoto
  • 36 states + FCT
  • Same borders for all

Why important: We all call Nigeria home!

 

  1. COMMON LANGUAGE 🗣️

What it means: Languages that help us understand each other 

In Nigeria:

  • English (official language)
  • Major languages: Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo

  • Pidgin English (widely spoken)

Why important: We can talk and understand each other!
