NOTE

PURCHASE, SUPPLIES AND MERCHANDISING OF GOODS AND SERVICES

In every well-established business organisation, there is a purchasing and supply unit or department, otherwise addressed as the procurement unit.

Their functions include

  1. Purchasing and supply the right quality and quantity of materials at the right time
  2. Purchasing the right quantity from the source at the right place to the right place.
  3. They also monitor market prices not only of the product’s materials purchased but also of significant raw materials used in their organisation.
  4. they monitor suppliers’ prices, providing information or imminent price changes
  5. They participate in organisational planning, policy and decision making
  6. They supply the company regularly with raw materials to avoid stoppage or product delay and allow continuity
  7. They maintain sound cooperative relationships and develop staff policies and procedures for effective running of an organisation.

FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHEN SELECTING A SUPPLIER

  1. A supplier that will meet its need which revolves around reliability in quality, service, terms and price.
  2. Favourable delivery terms, quality and standard
  3. reliability of supply spoilage and delay in supply, etc
  4. technical ability, competency, years of experience, product capacity, financial capability, industrial relations stability, production and quality control.
