Topic: Whole Numbers (1-300 Counting Skills And Number Recognition)

Learning Objectives

By the end of this week, pupils should be able to:

  • Identify numbers from 1-300
  • Represent numbers using objects and pictorial representations
  • Apply numbers in real-life situations
  • Categorize different objects by counting
  • Skip count in 2s, 3s, and 10s
  • Solve quantitative reasoning exercises

 

Lesson Content

Day 1-2: Counting Numbers 1-300

Extending Our Counting:

  • Review counting 1-100
  • Learn to count from 101-200
  • Practice counting from 201-300
  • Learn number patterns: 100, 200, 300

Number Recognition:

  • Show number cards and identify them quickly
  • Practice reading numbers aloud
  • Find numbers on a number chart

Day 3: Skip Counting

Skip Counting in 2s:

  • 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20…
  • Use this when counting pairs of things

Skip Counting in 3s:

  • 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30…
  • Use this when counting groups of three

Skip Counting in 10s:

  • 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100…
  • This helps us count quickly!

Day 4-5: Sorting and Classification

Grouping Objects:

  • Sort bottle tops by color and count each group
  • Group pencils by size and count
  • Classify toys and count each type
  • Use tally marks to record counts

Number Line Practice:

  • Use a number line to find and show numbers
  • Jump along the number line when skip counting

 

Examples in Class

Counting Example:

“Let’s count these chairs: Start at 1… 1, 2, 3… up to 25 chairs”

Skip Counting Examples:

  • In 2s: “Count these shoes: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10” (5 pairs of shoes)
  • In 10s: “Count these fingers: 10, 20, 30” (3 groups of 10 fingers each)

Sorting Example:

“Sort these colored blocks:

  • Red blocks: 15
  • Blue blocks: 12
  • Yellow blocks: 8
  • Total blocks: 15 + 12 + 8 = 35″

  2. In a school, there are 23 classes. If each class has 10 desks, how many desks are there altogether? (Use skip counting in 10s)
