Integration and Evaluation of Simple Algebraic Functions SS3 Mathematics Lesson Note
Download Lesson NoteTopic: Integration and Evaluation of Simple Algebraic Functions
Specific objective: At the end of the lesson students should be able to:
- Define integration
- Differentiate between integration and differentiation.
- Apply integration formula
Instructional resources: Chart showing rules of integration
Lesson procedure
Step 1: Identification of prior ideas
Mode: Individual
Teacher Activities: the teacher asks the students to carry out the following operation
- 5+3=?
- 5+2=?
- 2232=?
- 6422=?
Step 2: Discussion
Mode: Whole class
Teachers Activities: The teacher teaches and explains to the students the following integration can simply be defined as adding one (1) to the power and dividing by the new power using the formula

where it is constant. The result is obtained when the operations, multiplication and division are also inverse operations as well as raising to power and extracting roots. Hence, we develop the inverse operation of differentiation called anti-differentiation (integral) using indices.
Step 3: Application
Mode: Whole class
Teacher activities: the teacher asks the students to solve the following board.
Integrate
Student Activities: The students integrate the function
Step 4: Evaluation
Mode: Whole class
Teacher’s Activities: The teacher evaluates the lesson with the following:
- Define integration
- State the general integral formula
