Transportation can be defined as the process of conveying or carrying goods and people from one place to another either through water, road, rail or air, and can also be the movement of gods and people from one place to another. Transportation is one of the aids to trade.

IMPORTANCE OF TRANSPORTATION 

1. Encouragement Of International Trade: With the development of air and sea transport, trade between one country and another is encouraged.
2. Expansion Of Firm Market: through the help of transportation a firm’s market can be extended for the sales of the firm’s products.
3. Effective And Efficient Distribution Of Goods: Proper distribution of goods and services to areas where they are needed and are achieved with the help of transportation. 
4. Movement Of Productive Resources: A good transportation means helps in moving productive resources from areas where they are available to areas where they can be put to adequate use.
