Topic: Islamic Moral Education And Perseverance

PERSEVERANCE (SABR)

Sabr is an Arabic word denoting endurance, perseverance and patience. Because of its importance in shaping the life of man, Allah in several places in the Qur’an enjoins His creatures to cultivate Sabr even when things go wrong. Qur’an 2:153-157 enjoins Muslims to demonstrate Sabr in the face of danger, loss and hardship.

Prophet Muhammad also counselled his followers to exercise patience and perseverance and described those who uphold this as being grateful to Allah.

Prophet Muhammad demonstrated sabr throughout his life. He was persecuted by the idol worshippers, betrayed by the hypocrites and was even stoned out of Taif when preaching, yet he did not abandon practice; patience is necessary for doing good and resisting evil.
