Upon salvation, believers are expected to bear the fruit of the life of the spirit which is in them. This is what can be referred to as the fruit of the spirit. As you can observe, it is not fruits but fruit. It is a spirit-bearing fruit that is reflected in different qualities.
Before salvation, man has been schooled in the flesh living the life of the flesh independent of the spirit of Christ Jesus. The fruits of that life can be referred to as the fruit of the flesh. Apostle Paul administered Galatians to walk in the spirit so they would not fulfil the lust of the flesh. The reason is that the flesh and the spirit are at variance with each other. The works of the flesh against the law of God. The works of the flesh include adultery, fornication, uncleanliness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, drunkenness, murder, wrath, striving etc. This works of the flesh can endurance access to the kingdom of God.
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Gal. 5:22- 25

The fruit of the spirit is what distinguishes a Christian from a non-Christian. The fruit of the spirit could be referred to as a summary of the Ten Commandments.
Every believer is expected to manifest such conduct as Love, Joy, peace, long-suffering gentleness, and goodness with meekness and temperance.
HOW TO BEAR THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
The following are steps to bearing the fruit of the spirit.
- Repentance of Sin
- Salvation through faith in Jesus Christ
- Baptism in the name of Jesus
- Gift of the Holy Spirit
- Abiding in Jesus Christ
