Topic: God’s Love For Man And Man’s Love For One Another

Jesus went to Galilee, he had to go through the country of Samaria. Jacob’s well was there. At this time, Jesus was tired from his long trip, so he sat down beside the well. It was about noon. Then, a Samaritan woman came to the well to get some water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” This happened while his followers were in town buying some food. The woman refused because Jews and Samaritans had no dealings.

Jesus answered and said unto her, “If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.” John 4:10

The woman said, “Sir, where will you get that living water? The well is very deep, and you have nothing to get water with. Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob? He is the one who gave us this well. He drank from it himself, and his sons and all his animals drank from it too.”John 4:11-12

The woman asked Jesus to give her this water so she would never be thirsty again and wouldn’t have to come back here to get more water.

Jesus told her to go get her husband and come back.

The woman answered, “But I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right to say you have no husband. Then Jesus gave her a brief narrative of her life. Hearing this, the woman acknowledged Jesus as a prophet. She invited others to come to see Jesus, the promised messiah.

  2. By saying that it is a spring of water welling up to eternal life he meant that the word of God would always stand the test of time and sustain whoever embraces it.

LESSONS

  1. Jesus Christ did not discriminate between Jews and Samaritans.
  2. The conversation between Jesus Christ and the woman of Samaria is a true reflection of humility.
