 DEFINITION OF A FAMILY

A family is a group of persons who live together as one and are united by marriage, blood, or adoption ties. Family members are each other’s kin.

 TYPES OF FAMILY

THE NUCLEAR FAMILY: This comprises a man, his wife, and their children. It is also sometimes called a monogamous family because it arises from one man and one wife.

POLYGAMOUS FAMILY: This comprises a man, his wives, and their children. In a polygamous family, a man is legally married to more than one wife.

EXTENDED FAMILY: This type of family is made up of the husband, his wife or wives, their children, and other relations like uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents, etc

 FAMILY TREE

In the different types of families, members relate to each other in special ways. This relationship can be called a kinship pattern. A family tree is a graph or diagram that shows the family kinship pattern. It shows how family members are related to each other.
