What is Examination Malpractice?

Examination malpractice means cheating or doing dishonest things during tests and examinations. It is a criminal behavior because it involves lying and breaking school rules.

Types of Examination Malpractice

Copying from Others

What is Copying?

  • Looking at other students’ answer sheets
  • Writing down answers you see from classmates
  • Peeping at your neighbor’s work during exams

Examples:

  • Turning your head to see your friend’s answers
  • Stretching your neck to look at another student’s paper
  • Moving closer to someone to copy their work

Using External Help

What is External Help?

  • Getting answers from outside sources during exams
  • Using materials you’re not supposed to have

Examples:

  • Hiding small papers with answers (called “chips”)
  • Writing answers on your hand, desk, or clothes
  • Bringing textbooks into the exam room secretly
  • Using calculators when not allowed

Asking for Help During Exams

What is Asking for Help?

  • Talking to other students during tests
  • Making signs or signals to get answers
  • Whispering questions to classmates

Examples:

  • Whispering “What’s the answer to number 5?”
  • Using hand signals to ask for help
  • Passing small notes to friends
  • Making eye contact and pointing at questions

Bringing Unauthorized Materials

 

What are Unauthorized Materials?

  • Things you’re not allowed to have during exams
  • Items that give unfair advantage

Examples:

  • Bringing phones with saved answers
  • Hiding answer sheets in clothes or bags
  • Using rulers or erasers with written formulas
  • Bringing prepared answer sheets
