Topic: Preventive Measures – Tips On Being Security Alert

Learning Objectives: By the end of this lesson, pupils should be able to:

  • Identify strangers in their environment
  • explain what to do when dealing with a stranger

Lesson Content:

Review: Who is a Stranger? A stranger is any person you do not know. Even if they seem nice, if you don’t know them and your parents don’t know them, they are strangers.

How to Identify Strangers in Your Environment:

  • Someone you have never seen before
  • A person not known by your family
  • Someone without proper identification
  • People who cannot explain why they are in your area
  • Anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable

Where You Might Meet Strangers:

  • On your way to school
  • At the playground
  • In the market with your parents
  • Near your house
  • At bus stops
  • In public places

Dangerous Things Strangers Might Do:

  • Offer you sweets, money, or toys
  • Ask you to go with them somewhere
  • Want to take your picture
  • Ask where you live or go to school
  • Tell you not to tell your parents about them
  • Follow you around
  • Try to touch you inappropriately

What to Do When Dealing with Strangers:

The “No, Go, Yell, Tell” Rule:

  1. NO: Say “No” loudly to anything they ask
  2. GO: Go away from them quickly
  3. YELL: Shout for help if they follow you
  4. TELL: Tell a trusted adult immediately

Safety Tips:

  • Never go anywhere with a stranger
  • Don’t accept gifts from strangers
  • Don’t give personal information (name, address, school)
  • Don’t help strangers find lost pets or directions
  • If a stranger grabs you, make noise and fight back
  • Trust your feelings – if something feels wrong, it is wrong

Safe Adults to Run To:

  • Police officers in uniform
  • Teachers
  • Security guards
  • Shop owners you know
  • Other parents with children

What to Tell Adults When Reporting:

  • Describe what the stranger looked like
  • Tell them what the stranger said or did
  • Explain where it happened
  • Say when it happened

  • Back to your school
  • Into a shop or store
  • To a police station
  • Home to your parents
  • Any place with many people you trust
