What is a Relationship?

  • Relationship means connection between people
  • How people know each other
  • How people relate or interact
  • We have different types of relationships

Types of Relationships:

  1. Family Relationship

  • Your parents, brothers, sisters
  • Grandparents, uncles, aunts
  • People you live with
  1. Friends
  • Your classmates
  • Children you play with
  • People you know well
  1. Teachers and Adults You Know
  • Your teachers at school
  • Your parents’ friends you’ve met
  • People your family trusts

Who is a Stranger?

A stranger is:

  • Someone you don’t know
  • Someone your parents don’t know
  • Someone you’ve never met before
  • Someone you’ve never seen before

Identifying a Stranger:

Strangers Can Look Like:

  • A man you don’t know
  • A woman you don’t know
  • An older child you don’t know
  • Anyone your parents haven’t introduced to you

Important:

  • Strangers can look nice and friendly
  • Strangers can smile at you
  • But they are still strangers if you don’t know them
  • Not all strangers are bad, but we must be careful

Dangers of Strangers

Why we must be careful:

  • Some strangers may want to hurt children
  • Some strangers may want to kidnap (take) children
  • Some strangers may give you bad things
  • Some strangers may lie to you

Precautionary Measures with Strangers

Rules to Stay Safe:

  1. Don’t Talk to Strangers
  • If someone you don’t know talks to you
  • Don’t answer them
  • Walk away quickly
  1. Don’t Follow Strangers
  • If a stranger says “Follow me”
  • Say NO and run away
  • Find your parent or teacher
  1. Don’t Collect Anything from Strangers

  • Don’t take money from strangers
  • Don’t take sweets or biscuits
  • Don’t take toys or gifts
  • They might not be safe
  1. Don’t Enter a Stranger’s Car
  • Never get into a car with someone you don’t know
  • Even if they say your parents sent them
  • Even if they say they have a gift for you
  1. Scream and Run If a Stranger Tries to Touch You
  • Shout “NO! HELP!”
  • Run to where people are
  • Tell an adult immediately
  1. Always Tell Your Parents
  • If a stranger talks to you, tell your parents
  • If a stranger offers you something, tell your parents
  • Your parents will keep you safe

What to Say to Strangers:

If a stranger approaches you:

  • “My parents taught me not to talk to strangers”
  • “NO! I don’t know you!”
  • Then run to a safe place

Safe Adults:

If you’re lost or in danger, you can ask for help from:

  • Police officers in uniform
  • Security guards
  • Teachers
  • Shop workers
  • Other parents with children

Remember:

  • Your body belongs to you
  • No one should touch you inappropriately
  • Tell your parents if anyone makes you uncomfortable
