THE PROPHET’S PREACHING AT TA’IF & HIJIRA TO ABYSSINIA
Prophet Muhammad faced many challenges when he started spreading the message of Islam. Two important events show his courage and patience: his journey to Ta’if and the Hijira (migration) to Abyssinia.
The Journey to Ta’if
Why Did Muhammad Go to Ta’if?
- Mecca became very difficult for Muslims
- People were mean to Muhammad and his followers
- Muhammad wanted to find a new place to share Allah’s message
- He hoped people in Ta’if would listen and understand
What Happened in Ta’if?

Why Did Muslims Go to Abyssinia?

The First Migration
- A small group of Muslims left Mecca
- They traveled to Abyssinia (now called Ethiopia)

The Brave Emigrants
- About 10-15 Muslims made the first trip
- More Muslims followed later
- They left everything behind
- They were willing to suffer to keep their faith
The King of Abyssinia (Negus)
- A Christian king
- Known for being fair and kind
- Listened carefully to the Muslims
- Protected the Muslims from their enemies
- Did not send them back to Mecca
